April 2023- Scotland. I never tire of the place.

So here I am again in one of the most wonderful landscapes in Europe, starting off on the East coast and moving on up to Sutherland on the west coast. My base was the beautiful and timeless village of Findochty. The Moray coast is full of gentle splendour and often shunned by photographers as not so inspiring, due to its lack of lochs and mountains. My view is, much is missed as the geological formations are truly magnificent and the empty beaches lend themselves to some longer exposure work. Cullen is one of those places particularly at sunset. The rocks are a real joy , full of shapes and hard edges jutting into the sea. Portknockie is rightly famed for Bow fiddle rock but the surrounding coves and cliffs have some wondorous rock patterns which cry out for some intimate landscape photography. I experienced a real mix of weather here from fierce storms to gentle drig days ideal for some woodland work. I then moved onto the magnificent Kyle of Tongue and Durness. One of the cottages was right on the shores of The Kyle of Durness. A real photographer’s dream as you could shoot the Kyle in a variety of weathers and times of day. Both the Nikon 850 and new fuji H2 were used. The Nikon however heavy stands up to all weathers and the dynamic range is still top notch so why trade it in? The new fuji is also proving to be a great camera. Weather here was again mixed but mainly good and the weather forecast apps, all of them were wrong each day ! So ignore is my motto. Both Tongue and Durness once the wildernesses of the Uk are being developed in terms of housing and tourism. Change needs to take place in any area but I have to admit the development of these landscapes as playgrounds for the rich smarts a bit. We shall see what the next few years bring. I really hope all is not lost. I hope you enjoy some of the shots I took featured below. Some of them feature as prints in my latest exhibition as from 30th May -10 th of June at The Crypt gallery Norwich. Why not pop along ?
