Over the last few months, my landscape photography has taken a back seat while I relocated from Norfolk to the Yorkshire Dales, but I wanted to share what I've been up to and some of the photography opportunities I've enjoyed along the way.

After decades of living in Norfolk and Suffolk, I made a big move to the Yorkshire Dales, Leyburn. Life has been full-on ever since! Our house in Loddon sold in December 2025, and from then we were immediately consumed by the excitement and stress of our move to the Yorkshire Dales.

I haven’t had a chance to write my blog about my incredible trip to Japan in November 2025. It was simply amazing, from Tokyo to Mount Fuji and all the places in between. I managed to take some local photos before leaving the county I’ve spent so much time in and loved, Norfolk. However, it was a very wet and grey, flat winter, which limited my work along with preparing to move.

But in February 2026, I went to Senja, which was wonderful! I was lucky to experience a wide range of fast changing light and a lot of snow. The highlight of the trip for me was shooting the snow-covered trees against a backdrop of snow and powder blue skies. In March, I made a short trip to Torridon again. It wasn’t the most successful trip, mainly because I was so busy with other things. But I did manage to take a few interesting pictures.

Camera club talks did continue both in person and via Zoom which means I can reach so many more groups. Many are booked for 2027 and even 2028. My first talk in the new house was to South Liverpool Photographic society and I was delighted to receive the following comments

“Ruth presented her excellent, analytical and informative presentation on landscape photography to South Liverpool Photographic society on 28th May 2026.” “The presentation was delivered with infectious enthusiasm, notably for the four essentials of light, location, composition and processing. Their importance in capturing an extensive series of exquisite seascapes and landscapes was explained in detail, with the influence of subtle hues, a sense of mood, the relevance of content, people and the separation of overlapping structures” …”

“For my part, I particularly liked your high key images, which, along with the section of your talk on water, showed your preference for images of serenity. “

Now, it’s been two months in my new house, which has the most terrific view. But I haven’t had a chance to do any serious photography yet. I hope to rectify that soon, but in the meantime, I have a whole lot of photos to cull and process. So please do keep an eye on my website as things will be changing and new work being added
